We are grateful to the community supporting us, and want to give something back, that’s we are supporting St Albans Postboxes!

At Eat Wholefoods we care passionately about your health and think that nutrition is vital to living a long and happy life. Our mission is to provide a personal service selling freshly packed but high quality, ethically sourced foods, using as little packaging as possible and at an affordable price.

Eat Wholefoods have traded on St Albans celebrated charter market (through all weathers) since 1978. Recently we won best market stall and overall ‘Retailer of the Year’ in a local competition.

On this site you can order most of our products. Have them delivered directly to your door or collect them for free from our St. Albans market stall or our St. Albans shop.

You are important to us and we guarantee a friendly and helpful service. If you have any suggestion for new products or if you want to order any of our products in bulk, or if you have any comments or questions please contact us.

We look forward to providing you with great products and service.

Visit our stall on St. Albans market every Saturday and Wednesday. Chat with us about recipes, life and and the weather, buy some healthy food and some yummy snacks and then, maybe, browse around the beautiful historic city of St. Albans.

If you are near St. Albans, UK, come and visit our shop on Hatfield Road. There you can browse though the shelves and have a chat. There is on-street parking.

Most of our product range is available online. We stock mostly everything for a healthy diet and lifestyle. With free national delivery on orders over £30 (less than 5Kg) and all orders over £75 this can be a really good way to stock up on regular essentials and specialty items.

Our produce is so much fresher than the supermarkets, you can practically taste the sunshine inside! And also unlike the supermarket giants who often stock produce from overseas where local farmers aren’t given a fair price, you can be sure that our foods come from companies that have strong ethical standards.

St Saviour’s Church

November 6, 2020 by ClareSTAPB

We are a welcoming & inclusive Christian community built on the understanding that God accepts us equally, irrespective of gender, sexuality, race, age, ability or belief

An Anglican church, in the Catholic tradition.

We are the Church of England parish church for the Bernards Heath area of St Albans, and pastorally serve the Marshalswick South Ward. Established originally as a daughter church of St Leonard’s in Sandridge during the city’s expansion in the Victorian era, St Saviour’s has always been in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of Anglican spirituality and worship. This means we use ritual and ceremonial to express those things which go beyond words; and try to provide a space in which each of us can encounter Jesus, especially in the words of Scripture and the bread and wine of Communion at the Sunday Mass.

If you live within the parish then you automatically have the right to use the church for baptisms, weddings, blessings and funerals. But of course if you have a particular connection with St Saviour’s (or would like to make one!) then you are very welcome. You can find more information by following the links .

You can find out which parish you live in here.

If you have a particular enquiry then please contact the Vicar, Fr Richard.

The Bernards Heath area of the city of St Albans was originally in the Parish of Sandridge, which had been given to the Abbey of St Albans by King Offa in the 8th century. In the late 1870s small dwellings sprang up on Sandridge Road, overlooking the Heath, near the brickyards. Known as ‘Snob’s Island’!, it was cut off from the rest of the city by mud wastes. In 1882 the Vicar of Sandridge acquired a plot of land in Culver Road, and at the cost of £250 erected a small iron building to serve as a school-church for the area. In 1888 a permanent school building was opened and the ‘little tin trunk’, as it became known, was improved and continued to serve the area as a Mission Church. In 1895 the Diocesan Mission Society assumed responsibility for the area, and plans were made to erect a permanent Mission Church on land gifted by the Earl Spencer on Sandpit Lane. The foundation stone was laid in July 1896 and work began building the chancel. Notably most of the bricks used in the building the church were from the local brickyard.

Work began building the nave in 1901, and the completed church was dedicated by the Bishop of Colchester on All Saints’ Day, 1 November 1902.

Save St Albans Pubs

November 6, 2020 by ClareSTAPB

Save St Albans Pubs is a not for profit community group fighting an extraordinary hike in business rates that has and will continue to cause pub closures and the loss of jobs and tourism in our city and all over Britain. We are campaigning for the government to implement urgent business rate reform.

St Albans Pubs and the Local Economy – Pubs are important and more than just for refreshments, a drink, a lunch or a night out. In St Albans, they generate over £40 million pounds per year for our local economy. They employ over 1600 local citizens, pay over £20 million in wages and are fundamental in local food chains by supporting local farms and businesses. Our pubs play an important role in creating cohesion and combating loneliness within our community.

St Albans pubs fundraise hundreds of thousand of pounds annually for local and national charities, community groups and individuals in need. Charities supported include The Ollie Foundation, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Youth Talk, Hospice of St Francis, Earthworks and many more. They also provide in-kind donations and time and you will find St Albans pub landlords and staff walking, running, or slogging it out in the mud to raise money for charity.

In 2017, central government dramatically increased rateable values for too many pubs. The rateable values for pubs are derived from a number of factors including turnover or what is called ‘fair maintainable trade’.

Save St Albans pubs believes that this formula is flawed and is essentially a turnover tax sufficient to turn a modest profit into a whopping loss. The formula penalises pubs located in high value property areas such that they have no choice but to put prices up, or shut down.

We are in the process of fundraising to enable us to begin the next step our our campaign, #thechancellorschase

We will blanket mainstream and social media with a message to the Chancellor. Come to St Albans, have a pint (we need to sell 200,000 to cover the St Albans pubs tax hike) and see first hand the damage business rates are doing to our local businesses.

We need the help of our community to get the Chancellor to town.

For information on how to support our campaign financially, please go to our supporters page to reserve your name on our supporters’ pint wall (as you make your donation, please let us know if you want your name up or wish to be anonymous).

You will also find a template letter to send to your MP and the Chancellor on our Supporters page drop-down menu.

Curiosity and Clarity

November 6, 2020 by ClareSTAPB

Curiosity & Clarity is a boutique qualitative research, consumer insight and brand strategy agency – working mainly with food and drink brands.  With a mix of empathy, inspiration and hands-on business savvy, I help brands learn where they fit in their shoppers’ and consumers’ hearts and lives… and find what will work to get their products flying off the shelves.

As a market researcher for food brands, I learn a lot about how important good food and Christmas are to people, both physically and mentally.   And I know just how tough this Christmas will be for many.   So I’m incredibly proud to be able to support an initiative that’s helping keep vulnerable people fed and cared for at Christmas.      Plus, it’s a wonderfully creative idea!   When I started my business last Christmas I set myself a goal to have my very own postbox this year, so it’s awesome to be able to take part.

Excalibur Auctions

November 6, 2020 by ClareSTAPB

Excalibur Auctions was established as an auction house in February 2016.  As a toy and model enthusiast Jonathan knew that there wasn’t a specialist toy auction house for him to be able to buy at locally, so knew we would have a captive audience of both buyers and sellers.  Since then we have diversified into movie and music memorabilia, posters, comics and autographs.

We try and make selling and buying with Excalibur Auctions as easy and transparent as possible.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us – we’ll be happy to talk you through the process and tell you more about us.

First time sellers can take advantage of reduced selling fees – and if they tell us they’ve found us through postboxes 5% of those fees will be donated to the postboxes charities.

As a local, relatively small family company we look for ways in which we can support local charities – being able to support Open Door and St Albans & District Foodbank in this creative way fully reinforces our aim.Other local charities we have supported are St Albans Museum – for whom we auctioned a unique piece, and Home Start for whom we ran their charity auction.

Park Street Residents Association

October 19, 2020 by ClareSTAPB

“Park Street & District Residents Association (PSRA) has been supporting and representing its residents since 1966. A happy band of volunteers, carrying out activities to enhance and improve village life.

PSRA organises Christmas lights, Well-Being day and ad-hoc fundraisers. PSRA participates in St Stephen Parish’s Remembrance Day and Carol Services, competes for the parish’s Best Kept Front Garden, and supports Neighbourhood Watch litter picks.
In 2020 PSRA donated two decorative village entrance signs, and continues to run a community Foodbank.
PSRA hopes to host its Christmas switch-on, COVID permitting, on 26th Nov 2020, with school choirs, live band, and refreshments”

Decorated Post Boxes will add to the festive spirit in Park Street village, even if Park Street Residents Association (PSRA) cannot (because of COVID-19) go ahead with its public Christmas Lights Switch On, whilst helping some very worthy causes, one of which aligns very well to PSRA’s own commitment to its local foodbank.

You’ll find this postbox in Park Street of course, Watling Street/Sycamore Drive.

DigitalJen

November 11, 2019 by ClareSTAPB

Jen is one of those people who can’t possibly sleep. Ever. She hosts this website for me and does clever things that I can’t do, like the app for #stalbanspostboxes and those QR codes that you can scan and maybe win a prize.

Over to her for even MORE they are doing in 2020!

In addition to hosting & building their website, creating the logo and doing the technical magic to make everything appear on the EYES on St Albans app, we’re also sponsoring the Scan and Win Trail!

With a bit of help from our friends at EYES on St Albans, Atlas Translations & Paramount Wines, we’ve put together a collection of prizes that we hope will be a lovely treat for the winners when the campaign closes at the end of December.

We’ll be showcasing what’s on offer on our social media channels (and on the Postboxes social media… and EYES on St Albans) – and there will be a list on here too. Every time you find one of the postbox toppers, you can scan the trail code (one scan per postbox per 24 hours) to get one entry into the draw. https://www.digitaljen.co.uk/postboxes/

DigitalJen offer a range of services that you can “pick and mix” for short term projects and long term collaborations. Clients describe them as friendly, practical and flexible. They’re known for saying things how they are and appreciating (and providing) great cake.

With gorgeous views of the beautiful Abbey Cathedral our cosy café provides indoor and outdoor seating so you can enjoy a warming feast or dine alfresco and take in the views.

Their menu includes brunches, sandwiches and sweet treats, all made to order with the best, well-sourced ingredients. With daily specials including filling mains and fresh muffins and plenty of options for those following a special diet, they are sure to have something to hit the spot.

Trinder Hair Studios

November 10, 2019 by ClareSTAPB

I’m not the best advert for Trinder, but they really are hair magicians. It’s just that their magic wears off my hair incredibly fast. Leave Trinder – hair of a goddess. Wake up next morning – back to being a frizzball.

They describe their studio as an oasis of calm, and it certainly is. They’ve styled the hair(s?) of Uma Thurman, Meghan Markle, Minnie Driver, Erin O Conor and Kelly Osbourne, and me. We weren’t all there at the same time.

With a combined total of 22 years experience of working in a 5 Star London Salon, Marc & Sophie Trinder opened  Trinder Hair Studios in the centre of St Albans. The team previously worked in Central London, offering a vast amount of experience between them.  They were honoured to be awarded Best Hair Salon in Hertfordshire 2017 in the Muddy Stiletto Awards, less than a year after opening. Leading hair colour specialists who bring their knowledge in hair colour to you, now with their very own colour techniques which ensure they are always ahead in the latest colour trends.  Their colour contouring techniques are hugely popular, framing and enhancing any face shape.

Thank you lovely Trinder Hair Studios for your support for #stalbanspostboxes – can’t wait to see your topper!

Barry Wayne Jewellery

November 8, 2019 by ClareSTAPB

Barry told me he doesn’t really bother with all that social media stuff (except for Facebook), so the fact that just about everyone in St Albans knows who he is, says it all! He’s a legend!

Barry has worked in the jewellery trade since 1976 and operated from his shop in The Maltings, St Albans for many years alongside his workshop in the heart of London’s jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden. Over the years Barry has built a reputation for excellent customer service, and dedication to providing the finest quality jewellery at the best prices. All of Barry’s jewellery carries his own hallmark struck at the London Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office.

Barry says thank you to the St Albans community who have supported his passion in the last three years since he closed his shop Bespoke Jewellery in The Maltings. He has his own workshop in Hatton Garden and lives locally and offers a very personal service at customers homes at their convenience at a much better price. Barry has built up an excellent name for himself and his passion for every job he takes on is amazing.

Thanks Barry, for supporting #stalbanspostboxes.

Atlas Translations Ltd

November 8, 2019 by ClareSTAPB

The admin organisation crew are Clare Suttie and her team at Atlas Translations in the heart of St Albans, on Spicer Street.

Atlas offer a full translation service, and enjoy being part of the local community as well as working worldwide.

You can read more about them on their website: www.atlas-translations.co.uk

And of course, Atlas are delighted to sponsor their very own topper.

So how did this all start for Atlas Translations’ Director Clare Suttie? Back in January 2018, Clare met a lady from the Secret Society of Hertford Crafters. They had recently yarnbombed Hertford and raised lots of money for their local hospice.

The idea really appealed to Clare and she mentioned it to her friend Candy. That summer Candy sent Clare a photo of a Postbox Topper that she had made – on a postbox near her house – and the rest, as they say, is history.

In December 2018, Clare and Anna from Atlas Translations along with Candy, trudged the streets of St Albans putting 23 Postbox Toppers onto Postboxes in St Albans. The response was fantastic, the Postbox Toppers raised over £4,000 and the team vowed to do it again!

St Albans city centre is pretty much like many other city and yarnbombing brings colour and humour, especially in the winter months. You won’t see the same yarn bomb twice – they are handmade and truly unique. Yarnbombing can tell stories. It’s not perfect, or polished and that also adds to its charm. It’s art for everyone, truly accessible!

In 2019 the St Albans Postbox Toppers campaign raised just over £12,325.99 – incredible!

In Summer 2020, we ran an extra, smaller, floral trail, raising nearly £4000.
